SYNC-G (1D) Workshop: Students and Youth with Needs that are Complex

formerly OIS-G Workshop

August 23, 2018 at Nestucca Jr./High School from 8:15 am to 4:00 pm

Instruction by Dr. Ben Smith, NWRESD, Coordinator of Evidence-Based Behavioural Support Services

Workshop Purpose

This one-day workshop is open to the following educators:

* Administrators, TOSAs, Counselors, Psychologists, or Behaviour Specialists needing an initial OIS Certification.

* Staff with a current OIS certification (within 2-years) needing re-certification.

We will review positive behaviour supports, evasions, deflections, escapes, and belt-shirt techniques.  In addition, the new SYNC curriculum will focus on educational practices such as Restorative Justice, Growth Mindset, Mindfulness, and Trauma Informed Care.  Those who need additional training in protective physical interventions, such as one or two-person restraints, will need to submit an individualized behaviour support plan prior to attending.  The re-certification is good for two years.  Please eMail Ben Smith if you have questions about who is eligible for the re-certification workshop.

For staff who need OIS-IF (Individual Focus) level certification, we will also train the advanced holds needed for those identified students.  A Behaviour Support Plan is needed for IF Certification.  Please contact Ben Smith for questions about the G and IF level certification levels.
